Does being a non-believer make it easier for you to go to Heaven?
Take for example,
Gracia is an atheist, she does not disregard or disrespect the belief of many others that there is a God in the universe, she, just does not believe so. However, she is a very morally upright person, she believes that she should make her lifetime valuable and the purpose of her life is to help others, thus, she dedicates her time to charity and other activities that benefit the not so fortunate. She does this without any selfish intent, she does this because she believes it is her purpose in life.
Jabriel used to be a non-christian, and religion was never a basis for his actions, however, he still did have a good heart and was good natured, but with bad influences and social pressures, he never showed his good side. Now, he is a strong rooted christian, he believes in the existence of a heaven that can be reached after a certain "criteria" (let me put this way so as to avoid religious speculation) has been reached. Just like most other religions, some or many actions of good intention/will/faith (accordance to their religon) must be put forth before they can therefore reach heaven. So in this case, let us take it that in Jabriel's religion, it strongly approves of helping others for their goodwill. For example, doing charitable work and other activities that benefit the less fortunate without any gain to himself at all. However, it also makes this actions a criteria that should be passed for Jabriel to reach heaven.
Jabriel wants to go to heaven, and he is a person with good nature and he does feel the genuine calling to help the sick and needy. Since he wants to go to heaven, he has to meet the criteria, so now he has two callings, one to meet the criteria, the other to follow his general calling.
1 : Actions of good will must be done without any self gain to himself, speaks of his criteria that must be met before he can go to heaven
2 : Actions of good will, speaks of his calling of his good nature
Thus, when Jabriel's good natured side is so called "awakened" by the new religious influences, he feels the calling to help the needy. His religion too strongly approves and makes this calling a criteria that must be met before he can reach heaven.
The twist is, what if Jabriel does feel the genuine calling to help the needy, but he is stuck in this dilemma: Jabriel wants to help the needy out of his own good natured calling. His religion also states that he should have no intention of self gain whatsoever, and knowing that these actions would help him go to heaven, that might confuse him to having intention of self gain without the knowing that he is heeding his genuine calling to help the needy.
On the other hand, Gracia is happily heeding the call to help the needy without any intention to go to heaven or have any intention to use her actions as a basis for her to reach heaven. Thus, she meets the criteria better than Jabriel, which also means that it is easier for her to reach heaven in this sense.
What does this mean?
(no, it doesn't make it easier.)
